Stripped thread repair sizer

The screw spins forever and never tightens. That is the hole, not the screw. Pick what the hole is made of and get the fix with real drill sizes.

Best fix

Fit a brass heat-set insert

  1. Open the boss to about 4.0 mm for an insert with roughly a 4.6 mm outside diameter.
  2. Push the insert in with a soldering iron at 200–250 °C, straight and slow, until it sits flush.
  3. The hole then takes a normal M3 machine screw and survives repeated opening.
  4. No insert to hand? A short-term fix is a plastic wall plug sliver or a cocktail stick and glue, then re-drive the original self-tapping screw.
